The National TA2 Muscle Car Series and The Australian Excel Series debut are some of the Highlights for Round 3 of the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series on 2-4 June, which is running as a combined event with Queensland Raceway’s “2 Days of Thunder” motorsport festival.
The 2 Days of Thunder race meeting has traditionally been one of the biggest events on Queensland Raceway’s annual calendar and combined with the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series and its enhanced Media package its set to be a huge weekend.

Among the local categories, the Queensland Production Car Series has boomed in popularity in recent seasons and around 30 cars are expected to line up next weekend, split into eight different classes based on vehicle performance.
Confirmed entries in Class X (Ultimate Performance) include the BMW M3 of Bathurst 6 Hour winner Beric Lynton and Speedcafe.com BMW M4 of Karl Begg, while there are also some prominent names in other classes, such as the experienced Jake Camilleri in his Mazda3 and Anthony Levitt in his distinctive-sounding lime green Mercedes C63.
The Queensland Production Cars will stage a pair of one-hour endurance races on the Saturday evening, with a half-hour break between each race.
Also on the program will be the Queensland Touring Car Championship and Replica Tourers Trophy Series.
Both these categories are open to a variety of road car-based replicas of touring cars from Group C, Group A, V8 Supercar and Super Tourer eras; vehicles competing in the class include V8 Holdens and Fords, along with six-cylinder BMWs.
The Queensland Touring Car Championship has relatively strict requirements around technical regulations, while the Replica Tourers Trophy Series allows slightly more freedom on engine configurations and continues to grow significantly.
Another local category is the Queensland Porsche Cup, a category run by Porsche Club Queensland that is open to all generations of Porsche race cars. The field at QR is expected to span everything from the Type 993 Porsche 911s of the early to mid-1990s, all the way through to current-generation 992 GT3 Cup cars, including one to be raced by Porsche veteran Wayne Hennig.
Rounding out the program will be a pair of nostalgic categories: Group N and Australian Trans-Am.
The Group N cars represent vehicles that graced Australian race tracks in the 1960s and ‘70s, including V8 Mustangs, Camaros and Falcon XY GTs, along with smaller and more nimble Torana XU1s and Mini Cooper Ss.
Meanwhile, the Australian Trans-Am Series features two-door, four-seat, rear-wheel-drive V8 American production vehicles built from 1963 to 74; as well as Mustangs and Camaros, the series is also open to Pontiac Firebirds, Plymoth Barracudas and AMC Javelins. The series is run by long-time motorsport competitor Ian Palmer and could be described as the spiritual ancestor of TA2.
