Major Nina Dillon (centre) was delighted to see car racing back at One Raceway.
Mayor Nina Dillon attended the final round of the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series today, as the Mayor of the Goulburn Mulwaree region, she was delighted to see the track back being used and fans walking through the gates.
The track, formerly known as Wakefield Park, closed just over two years ago, however earlier this month was re-opened by Steve Shelley.
This weekend, the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series become the first national car racing event to be run on the new track configuration and under the new title.
Mayor Dillon is delighted that is has re-opened and expressed how important it is for the local economy.
“I think everyone is excited that it's re-opened,” Mayor Dillon said. “They've done a marvellous job getting it up to where it is now and keeping everybody happy.
“But yes, the whole Goulburn area is really excited to have everyone back out here.”
“I think for one thing, it's good for our accommodation and our restaurants and for the people who are rev-heads, for those that like to come out and watch racing, with the bike and the cars, juts listen to that go past!
“We are really excited, and really proud to have you back.”
Mayor Dillon spent a large portion of the day at the track, she watched some of the action from the great vantage point at Turn 12, and even got to sit in the passenger seat of the Hyundai Safety Car for a lap of the circuit.
“That was absolutely great,” she said after her lap. “It's a really wonderful thing being driven around that track, completely different to watching from up on the hill.
“We are very excited and very, very pleased with what's happening out here. There is a good future ahead I’m sure, it is great to be involved.
“We've got a beautiful day, what more could you ask for? I came out the other day and watched the bikes, and I'm just as excited today to watch the cars.”
