Morris Takes Out TA2 Opener at Queensland Raceway
Nash Morris has taken out the opening TA2 Muscle Car Series framed by Hytek race in Round 3 of the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series at Queensland Raceway today.
After taking pole position in the PWR Top 10 Shootout, Morris controlled proceedings throughout the race, taking victory ahead of Josh Haynes and points leader Dylan Thomas, with Jackson Rice and Hayden Hume completing the top five."
It was pretty hot out there, I wasn't cruising, but I was still trying to manage my car for tomorrow,” Morris said.“We’ve got a pretty big day of racing with three races tomorrow. I was still pushing pretty much the whole way through but I didn't want to take too much out of the tyres.”
Experienced Queensland racer Cam Wilson won both EFS 4x4 Accessories Australian Excel Series races, but the minor places were hotly-contested. Tyler Collins was second in Race 1 ahead of Jaylyn Robotham, who worked his way into the top three from seventh on the grid; Robotham improved to second in Race 2, ahead of Alice Buckley who recovered from a clash with Cameron Bartholomew in Race 1.
The hard luck story of the day went to Ryan O’Sullivan, who retired from a top three position with mechanical problems on the final lap of Race 1, and struck further dramas in Race 2.
The Queensland Production Car Series produced an enthralling contest over two one-hour races between 2019 Bathurst 6 Hour winner Beric Lynton (BMW M3) and young guns Ryder Quinn and Matthew McCutcheon (Ford Mustang). The two cars swapped the lead multiple times across the two races with Lynton ultimately prevailing on each occasion; third place in each race went to the Mercedes C63 of Tony Levitt and Luke King.
Steve Hay won the first of the Replica Tourers races in his HDT Group C replica VK Commodore ahead of Ian Woodward (Camaro) and Geoff Russell (Mustang), but a late issue for Hay in Race 2 saw Woodward taking the win ahead of Russell and Stuart Walker (VE Commodore).
In the Queensland Touring Car Championship, it was Chris Brown who used the abundance of horsepower in his VT Commodore to take the win on the National Circuit ahead of Robert Bellinger (BMW M3) and points leader Peter Bray (Commodore).
However, Race 2 was run on the more technical Switchback Circuit and Bellinger used his BMW’s nimble handling to pounce on the Commodores and take the win from Bray and Brown.
Despite some stiff challenges from Ian Palmer, John Prefontaine and Sean English, Alwyn Bishop was able to win all three Australian Trans-Am races, with Prefontaine picking up a pair of second places and English finishing second in Race 3.
Aldo De Paoli won both Group N races in his Camaro ahead of Grant Wilson (Camaro); Grahame Wrobel drove his Mustang to third in Race 1, but was defeated by fellow Mustang racer Ian Mewett in Race 2, after Mewett started at the rear of the grid with a mechanical problem.
Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge regular Tom McLennan won the two QLD Porsche Cup races in his 991 Mk2 GT3 Cup car, with Ryder Quinn finishing second in his grandfather Tony’s Porsche Cayman GT4 and Shane Wilson (997 Mk2) third on both occasions.
The Hi-Tec Oils Super Series action resumes tomorrow, with live streaming in the morning and live television coverage on SBS and Fox Sports from 1PM AEST.
