Replica Tourers to visit Sydney
The Hi-Tec Oils Super Series is delighted to welcome back the Replica Tourers Trophy Series as a support category for three rounds in 2025.
The Queensland based series will again join the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series at Queensland Raceway, but will also expand interstate for the first time.
As well as competing in the two rounds at Queensland Raceway, the Replica Tourers Trophy Series will appear at Sydney Motorsport Park.
It is the inaugural interstate race meeting for the category, a category which started only four years ago.
Replica Tourers Trophy Series General Manager Craig Line is ecstatic to have inked a deal to stay on the Super Series schedule in 2025, as it offers a great value for money experience for the competitors within the category.
“We're very, very keen to be part of the 2025 season, there's no two ways about it,” Line enthused.
“We have been absolutely wrapped in the relationship we've had with the Hi-Tec series.
“They took a chance on us two years ago as a support category to come on board for the Queensland legs and we managed to bring some very, very big grid numbers.
“As a state series, to have the recognition to be nationally televised is wonderful, all of our drivers have been wrapped.
“We’re looking forward to going to Sydney Motorsport Park as our, shall we say, first away round as part of the series.
“That’s breaking new ground for us, and we estimate at this stage we're going to be probably somewhere between 20 and 25 cars. To get that amount of drivers put their hand up to say we would love to run as a category at SMP with Hi-Tec is amazing.”
They will make their SMP debut as part of Round 2 of the series from May 30-June 1, before two rounds at Queensland Raceway on June 27-29 and August 15-17.
Hi-Tec Oils Super Series Manager Carolyn Oldano is equally excited to have the category back in 2025 as it is a real favourite of fans watching both trackside and on TV.
“It’s fantastic to have Replica Tourers on board for 2025,” she said. “General Manager Craig and Category CEO Brian’s camaraderie really speaks volumes about their dedication to the category.
“Their commitment is truly admirable. This year, we’ll see them in action for three rounds, and I’m excited to see what they bring to the series.
“Replica Tourers consistently deliver large and competitive grids, which is a testament to the category’s appeal.
“Replica Tourers are a fan favourite because they bring the excitement of old-school racing with classic cars that evoke a sense of nostalgia as well as the new.
“There’s something special about seeing a mix of these timeless machines on track, and it creates a real connection with the fans.”
The Replica Tourers simple ruleset allows for a wide variety of vehicles, and this is the major factor of the swelling grid sizes.
“Our first full season of racing was 2021, I can’t comprehend where we are four years down the track, with 30-40 cars on the grid every time,” Line said.
“I think we've got 72 registered drivers for the series so far, and it's growing.
“We're not limited to an Australian and New Zealand methodology. We've got cars that have been styled after European, British or even Japanese Touring Cars.
“Our rules basically state, the body shell must have been used in coupe or sedan format as a touring car in organised Touring Car racing formats somewhere in the world. That qualifies the body shape and the mark.”
Cars include Holden Commodores and Ford Falcons as well as Mazda RX8s, BMW E36s, Chevrolet Camaros, Honda Civics and Alfa Romeo GTVs, and that is just scratching the surface.
