Solid entries for Super Tin Tops

The Australian Super Tin Top Series returns reinvigorated with a new rule set, and drivers have followed suit with a good grid of machines set to descend on Winton Motor Raceway later this week.

In total 15 cars are entered; it contains a huge variety of machines from BMW E36s to Ford Falcons, an Audi TT and even a Lotus Elise.

Mark Tracey is back behind the wheel of the front-running BMW E36, but he will not be the only E36 driver as Matt Sims will also be on the grid.

There will be a quartet of Ford Falcons, category stalwarts Brent Edwards and Merrick Malouf, as well as BA XR6 owner Mick Pettit and the first of two female drivers Laurel Bell.

There’s a swag full of Mazdas, two MX-5s and a couple of RX-7s. The RX-7s will be steered by Wayne Alway and Tony Saint.

The MX-5s are part of category owner Denis Pana’s Powerhouse Tune & Race Team. One will be driven by Pana himself, the other by Helena Marras who has been racing less than a year, and will make her national racing debut this weekend.

The remaining cars are an eclectic mix of machines, we have Matthew Holt in his Production Car spec HSV Clubsport, expect him to be up the front.

Regulars Joshua Robins in his Lotus Elise returns with Ryan Bell in his Nissan 370z and Cory Gillett at the wheel of his ultra-fast Nissan Silvia, while Daniel Natoli and his Audi TT RS round out the field.

The new category owner Danis Pana is happy with the opening round entries and is confident the series will only get stronger during this season and beyond.

“I've always loved the category,” said Pana. “It's a unique category, it gives you the opportunity whatever car you have, if it no longer has a home, it has a home with us.

“We've got a 6-litre BMW, we've got a Nissan Silvia with a 6-litre in it. But at the same time, we've got a four-cylinder, two-litre car and some six-cylinder cars, so a whole variety of cars, everybody can come out and enjoy it.

“I'm passionate about the category, that's why I came onboard, and I'm investing in it. We've just launched our website, we've got our own media as well, we'll be launching our own YouTube channel shortly also.

“Our category would not be what it is if it wasn't for the team that's involved, slowly but surely this category is going to grow to be really successful.

“We moved the rules a little bit in the off-season, now, no matter what you have, you can come out and enjoy your racing with us.”

There will be four classes in 2025, the list is below.
