IES Motorsport’s Jarrod Hughes clean swept Saturday’s TA2 action, not only did he take both race wins in dominant fashion, he claimed pole position also.

The fight to Hughes was taken up by fellow Super2 steerer Ben Gomersall and Josh Webster, they finished second and third respectively in both races of the day’s 20-minute races.

Last year’s series runner-up Brad Gartner had a difficult qualifying session; however, he made the best of a difficult day to finish fourth in both affairs.

Tom Davies was sitting just ahead of Gartner in Race 1 when his fuel line fitting broke and saw his engine go up in smoke. He is out for the weekend.

As a result, Josh Thomas inherited fifth and finished both races in that spot.

Robert Hogan led a large majority of the laps over the course of the two Legend Cars races, however it is Ryan Pring who ended the day with more points.

Hogan won Race 1 by just over a second from Canberra driver Pring, while former TA2 Series winner Dylan Thomas ended up a further second back.

Thomas led home a train of cars, he pipped Aiden Williams, Brendon Hourigan and Askr Sendall in sixth.

Race 2 was similar to the opener, it was all looking good for Hogan until he lost a tonne of speed late in the race, he fell to fifth due to a broken shifter.

Pring made his way past at Turn 3 and held on to the victory, Thomas was second ahead of Williams, Hourigan and Hogan.

Innovation Race Cars

The first two races of the Innovation Race Cars Series took place today. Race 1 of the weekend was dominated Queenslander Geoff Emery, he stormed away from pole to win by nearly three seconds.

Geoff Taunton may have qualified on the second row of the grid, however he had great pace to overtake a couple of drivers and move up into second.

Category owner Danny Stutterd was in second for much of the affair before being overtaken by Taunton late on. The two Johns rounded out the top five, Hollinger from Goodacre.

Race 2 was not so calm, off the rolling start Emery bogged down and was immediately was hit by Stutterd at speed. Immediately Stutterd had to pull out of the race due to the damage.

Emery himself picked up damage and was forced to pit for repairs, he limped home in sixth. Out front Taunton was untouchable, 4.1s ahead of Hollinger and Goodacre.

Australian Super Tin Tops

Mark Tracey may have not had the fastest car today, however he came away with both race victories.

Matt Sims in his BMW E36 was flying in Race 1 and briefly took the race lead, however an unforced error at Turn 6 saw him lose the rear and spin at Turn 7 and relinquish the lead. From there Sims was unable to catch the leader.

Third went the way of Brent Edwards in his BA Ford Falcon, he was under pressure from Merrick Malouf. But the latter had a brake issue and after several spins finished behind Tony Saint.

Race 2 was much the same, an E36 1-2, Tracey from Sims with Edwards a distant third. Saint was fourth from Daniel Natoli.

The race was called early when Mallouf suffered a brake failure and slammed into the wall at Turn 3. Fortunately, Malouf was able to get out of unscathed.

Australian Drivers’ Championship

The Australian Drivers’ Championship had just the one race today and it was a tale of three throughout, separated by 1.1s at the line.

Reigning champion Damon Sterling took the win, beating New South Welshman by 0.6s, with inaugural champion Dean Crooke a further 0.5s back.

Niko Frech was best of the rest, he led home an angry pack of cars with Lucas Stasi fifth and Hamish Leighton sixth, former Formula Vee competitor Adam Nicolson was the best rookie in seventh.
