Joe Fawcett completes pole sweep at Winton
Joe Fawcett has continued his hot qualifying form in Sunday morning’s session to take pole for Heat 2 at the opening round of the Formula Ford Stars & Renegades Series at Winton.
Unlike on Saturday when the optimum lap was achieved early in the session, cooler conditions enabled plenty of drivers to improve during the 30-minutes including Fawcett.
Starting in the 1m 26s, Fawcett quickly achieved a 1m 25.988s on his second run to hold a significant advantage before finally scoring pole on a 1m 25.912s.
Saturday’s dual race winner Kobi Williams was another to lower his times and just missed pole by 0.052s, while runner up in yesterday’s Feature Race spurred Jamie Rowe onto third just 0.274s off the pole benchmark.
Will Lowing improved from a fraught Heat 1 to score a podium in the Feature and will share the second-row alongside Rowe.
Brad James is another to jump up the timing sheets to be fifth from Fraser Hie after a fuel pressure problem forced him to retire in the Feature Race.
Lachlan Evennett required an engine change after it overheated during the Feature Race and will start seventh, while Hunter Salvatore, Tabitha Ambrose and Jack Johnson complete the top 10.
Kaleb Balek and Ethan Fitzgerald rounded out the field, with Giuseppe Imbrogno not turning a lap.
The Formula Ford Stars & Renegades Series will be the second event on the live broadcast via SBS On-demand, Fox Sports and Kayo at 1:45pm AEDT, with the Feature Race at 3:30pm.
