Joe Fawcett ends the opening day fastest in Formula Ford at Winton

Joe Fawcett has secured the bragging rights after the opening day of the Formula Ford Stars & Renegades Series at Winton.

Fawcett’s fastest time of a 1m 25.486s was set in the opening practice session of the day, with Kobi Williams just 0.095s off the pace and Jamie Rowe completed the top three.

Fraser Hie was fourth from William Lowing, Lachlan Evennett and Hunter Salvatore, with Brad Jones leading the Marcos Ambrose Motorsport attack in eighth.

Jack Johnson and Tabitha Ambrose completed the top 10 for the opening session.

Fawcett continued to set the pace in the second practice session held in the early afternoon on a 1m 26.020s as he continued to lead Williams, extending the margin from earlier to 0.208s.

Rowe maintained third from Lowing, Hie, Evennett, Salvatore, James, Giuseppe Imbrogno and Kaleb Belak.

The third session was interrupted by a red flag due to Ethan Fitzgerald leaving the circuit at between Turns 6 and 7, but was able to be retrieved undamaged.

Williams ended the day fastest on a 1m 26.128s to edge Rowe by 0.243 as Fawcett was third.

Evennett rose to fourth ahead of Lowing, Hie, Salvatore, Imbrogno, James and Johnson.

Qualifying begins Saturday’s proceedings at 9:50am before Heat 1 at 1:10pm and the opening Feature Race of the round at 3:20pm.

Qualifying will be featured on the social media livestream, with the two races being broadcast live via SBS On-demand, Fox Sports and Kayo.
