The revamped Australian Super Tin Tops Championship has locked in an expanded five round calendar alongside the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series in 2025.
The category formerly known as Super TT, not only has a new name, it has new owners, a re-jigged class structure and different point system.
Remaining on the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series bill gives the category great stability heading into a new era, and the expended five round calendar shows the confidence that the series has in the new ownership.
“It's a great way forward for the class,” said Australian Super Tin Tops Spokesperson and Media Manager Brent Edwards. “We look forward to solidifying the relationship with the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series and being a staple category for the series.
“For national motorsport, the Hi-Tec Super Series is a perfect fit for our class, we'll be doing Round 1 at Winton, Round 2 at Sydney Motorsport Park, Round 3 at Queensland Raceway, Round 4 at Queensland Raceway, and the final round at Winton, as our five rounds for the year.”
The national category was previously run by the Australian Auto-Sport Alliance (AASA), who have passed the baton over to a reliable group.
“DPR33 Propriety Limited has bought the ownership of the category from the AASA,” Edwards stated. “So, we're now privately owned.”
“The Category Manager is now Cory Gillett, who was the 2024 series champion. We've got representation from a few stalwarts of the series covering our different classes, so we're getting feedback and the like from those people from different classes.
“DP33 is owned by Denis Pana, who is a competitor in the class as well, he has good alliances across the across the board, he'll be bringing in things like more sponsors, awards for best presented car that sort of thing.
“What we intend to do, is make it a fun place to go racing.”
Hi-Tec Oils Super Series manger Carolyn Oldano is pleased to see the restructuring and is confident of growth in the series.
“The restructuring of the Super Tin Tops category is an exciting development, bringing fresh opportunities and greater variety to the competitors,” she said. “With the leadership team in place, we are pleased to have them with the Super Series for 2025.
“Denis, Cory and all of the new team have a clear and exciting vision for the future of the Super Tin Tops, and I’m confident in their ability to bring that vision to life. It’s an exciting time for the category, I’m genuinely excited to see the direction they take.
“The Super Tin Tops’ continued involvement with the Super Series is a great move.
“The 2025 season looks set to be even stronger, with an anticipated increase in entries. The category is successfully drawing in competitors from across the nation, and the restructuring is only going to enhance the level of competition and excitement.”
The change to the name of Australian Super Tin Tops has been a strategic move to better explain to the world what the category is all about.
It should be noted that state based versions of the series will continue to race under the title of Super TT.
“A lot of people used to ask, ‘what's TT?’ We’ve clarified it by changing it to Australian Super Tin Tops, so people know that TT is Tin tops,” Edwards said. “TT could’ve been miskewed as a lot of different things.
“Basically, we are a production-based motor vehicle that still has its original firewall and chassis in place, that can be modified like a like a chassis sports sedan as such, without letting space framed or bespoke vehicles in.
“We want to remain a production-based category, which allows high end modifications.”
The previous iteration of the category ran the tyres, Slicks, Treaded Tyres and Under 2-Litre.
“For the new class structure, we have done away with slicks and radial tyres, it will be open tyre choice, there will be a few more freedoms to accept more vehicles,” he said.
