Super Series set for stupendous start

The Hi-Tec Oils Super Series returns bigger and better than ever in season 2025, with new categories and more off-track entertainment.

The series kicks into gear at Winton Motor Raceway in Victoria this week from February 28-March 2, with on-track action starting on Friday, before racing on Saturday and Sunday.

Winton is affectionately known as ‘The Nation’s Action Track,’ and with six categories on the bill it will certainly live up to that title.

However, before anything happens on-track, the event will commence with a Thursday evening street party in the local town of Benalla.

Many of the stars and cars from the various racing categories will be at the party signing autographs and having photos with fans.

The event will have competitions, giveaways, motor car displays and food and beverage trucks. It will take place from 4pm-7pm on Mair Street on Thursday evening (February 27th).

Super Series manager Carolyn Oldano is excited to get the show on the road, with so much happening on and off the track across the Winton weekend.

“The Benalla town event is a first for the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series especially with the visit from the mayor,” said Oldano.

“It’s a great opportunity to bring the cars to the community, showcase what Winton Motor Raceway has to offer, and let everyone get up close with the drivers and their cars. It’s a fantastic way to build excitement ahead of the weekend!

“This season promises some exciting additions with new categories that will bring fresh energy to the series. Add to this our existing categories, it makes it even more thrilling for fans. The team have worked incredibly hard behind the scenes to bring this all together.

“Fans can expect to see a variety of motorsport action with seven categories, large grids, high-performance vehicles, exciting newcomers, and some of the best drivers in the country battling it. It’s going to be an unforgettable weekend!

“It's also a great opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look with access to the pits, a full view of the racetrack for spectators, a car display, delicious food, and everything Winton Motor Raceway has to offer.”

The TA2 Muscle Car Series, Legend Cars Australia, Formula Ford, Innovation Race Cars, Australian Drivers’ Championship, Super Tin Tops and Excel Cup, each have a minimum of four races.

Round 1 of the TFH Hire TA2 Muscle Car Series Presented by Maritimo entry list is stacked with 22 cars.

Drivers include Super2 Series competitors, regular TA2 front-runners and notable rookies.

Last year’s bridesmaid Brad Gartner is looking to go one better in 2025, he will be challenged by perennial front-runners Mark Crutcher and Graham Cheney.

Keep a look out for Erebus Motorsport co-driver Jarrod Hughes, and Triple Eight Super2 Series driver Ben Gomersall in the opening round, they will be up the pointy end.

Tasmanian racer Josh Webster is a very promising youngster who will make his debut in the series driving for the team of former V8 Supercars champion and NASCAR Cup Series race winner, Marcos Ambrose.

Another notable rookie is Kiara Zabatakis, she has moved up from Super TT to contest TA2 in a Chevrolet Camaro. This is certainly a category you won’t want to miss.

Legend Cars Australia, the pocket rockets boast a record 36 cars for the opening round and includes all the regular contenders.

Reigning champion Ryan Pring will have his work cut out with Robert Hogan, Shane Tate, Brendon Hourigan, Scott Morgan and Ben Goodridge all entered, or will a debutant spring a surprise?

One of the new categories is the Formula Ford Stars and Renegades Series, the Stars class will see some of the counties best young up-and-comers fight on track, while the Renegades are for the older statesmen of Formula Ford.

If you like loud, powerful and fast cars, Innovation Race Cars (IRC) is for you.

IRC is a brand-new series, these cars are Aussie built GT monsters, fitted with traction control, ABS and a thundering V8 powerplant, that will rival GT3 machines for outright lap times.

Another Aussie manufactured racing car is the Hyper Racer X1s which are piloted by Australian Drivers’ Championship competitors. This category boasts a record 18 entries for the opening round.

The revised Super Tin Tops category proves the work in the off-season has paid off, they have a solid field of entries from Mazda MX-5s, BMW E36s to Ford Falcons and even a Lotus Elise.

Additional activities off-track include an all-American motorcar display on Saturday as well as a barbeque that evening.

The schedule is jam packed, with non-stop racing from 8am-5pm local time on all three days.

The event will be broadcast live on SBS Viceland, SBS On Demand, Kayo and Fox Sports from 1pm-5pm AEDT. The Hi-Tec Oils Super Series Stream runs from 9.30am-5pm AEDT both days.
