Top five national contender joins Formula Ford Stars & Renegades Series

Entering his third year of Formula Ford competition, Fraser Hie is eager to put some trophies in the cabinet during the inaugural Formula Ford Stars & Renegades Series.

Hie endured a tough year in 2024, but is rejuvenated for a title push this season as Formula Ford debuts as part of an impressive Hi-Tec Oils Super Series line-up.

A crash at Bathurst last year proved a setback for Hie, but he did return for the final two national rounds of the season finishing inside the top five at Phillip Island.

Now, a new challenge beckons for Hie in the form of the Formula Ford Stars & Renegades Series, which proved attractive due to the circuits on the calendar and its unique format.

“It is a very interesting format and I’m looking forward to more racing across the weekend,” said Hie.

“I’m excited to race at the new circuits, especially Mallala because it appears to be a cool place.

“I can’t wait to go race out there in addition to Queensland Raceway as well, which looks like a nice circuit to race at too. This is another reason why I switched to the Formula Ford Stars & Renegades Series.”

The round make-up provides plenty of track time through practice on Friday before qualifying, a Heat and a 30-minute Feature Race is held on Saturday and Sunday.

As for many young drivers, Hie’s aim is to reach the pinnacle of Australian motorsport in Supercars and this category provides the best environment to begin his ascent.

“My dream is to get to Supercars,” said Hie.

“Starting in Formula Ford is such a great learning experience, especially due to the cars moving around a lot and it teaches you a lot of the basic skills required to go further in your career.”

Hie has modest expectations for the season, but is aiming to score some victories throughout the five round campaign.

“My expectations are to do the best I can all year and hopefully maximise my results in each session by being consistent, which will hopefully lead to a couple of wins,” Hie concluded.

The maiden round of the Formula Ford Stars & Renegades Series will form part of the opening Hi-Tec Oils Super Series event at Winton Motor Raceway on February 28-March 2.
